    Macropod Training and Refresher course

    Bookings are essential and must be made no later than  22nd February, 2026 

    This course offers both essential training and refresher for members caring for Macropods. National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) requires a refresher to be completed by members every three years to maintain a licence to care for macropods.

    When: Sunday 1st March,2025

    Where: Kendall Community Centre, Kendall

    Time:  9:00 AM - 4:00 PM 

    Cost: $30 per head and $5 for each extra person in household & $10 for refreshers.

    Junior members wishing to attend must be over 12yrs by application.

    Participation is limited to 25 trainees so book in quickly please to avoid missing out.

    A printed manual and USB will be given to each new trainee household (1 per household). Members doing the course as a refresher will receive only the USB.

    Refreshments and luncheon are provided at no cost but members with special dietary requirements are asked to self-cater.

    Possum & Glider Training and Refresher Course

    This course offers both essential training and refresher for members caring for Possums and Gliders. National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) requires a refresher to be completed by members every three years to maintain a license to care for possums and gliders.

    Participation is limited to 25 trainees so book in quickly please to avoid missing out.

    Cost: $30 per head and $5 for each extra person in household & $10 for refreshers.

    A USB thumb drive training manual is provided for Possum and Glider trainees. 

    Refreshments and luncheon are provided, however, members with special dietary requirements are asked to self-cater.

    We will refund any cancellations that are received 48 hours before the course date.

    This training is ideal for those involved in the rehabilitation and release of sick, injured, or orphaned native birds.

    Whether you're just starting out or looking to build confidence in your care practices, our General Bird Training has been developed to support you.

    WHEN: 19th April,2026

    TIME: 9.30am-4.00pm

    COST: $15

    This training will concentrate on predominant species that come into care eg. Sea Birds, Water Birds, Black Swans & Pelicans, with Marine Turtles and Sea Snake protocols to be covered.

    Suitable for any member holding a category 8 Rescue authority can rescue and care for these birds, providing one has an appropriate holding facility and training. The reasons we see these birds coming into care can include weather conditions, ingesting foreign matter, fishing tackle, collisions and botulism.

    This training is for members to monitor, assess and assist any shore birds in need along the area.

    When: Saturday 23rd May 2026

    Time: 9.00-3.30pm

    Location: Harrington (TBC)


    What to bring/wear:

    Appropriate clothing, closed non slip footwear, hat, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, drinking water etc. (This is an outside venue) Bring morning tea and lunch or you may buy across the road.

     Rescue and Immediate Care (RICC) training course for new FAWNA members. You MUST be a FAWNA Member to register.

    When: Sunday 14th June, 2026
    Where: Taree Showground Tearooms
    Time: 9:00am to 4.00 pm
    Cost: $25

    CLOSING DATE for registration is 7th June

    This induction training day is designed for new members who wish to start their wildlife rescue and/or care journey, or who are interested in undertaking FAWNA phone duty.

    Junior Members wishing to attend must be over 12yrs by application

    Refreshments and luncheon are provided at no cost but members with special dietary requirements are asked to self-cater.

    Participation is limited to 30 trainees.

    We will have some heat pads, weighing scales, and probe thermometers available for sale at our cost (no-profit) price. Cash or Eftpos POS payment options are available on the day.

    Cost: $30 for members who wish to be authorised and FAWNA will arrange year 1 of the subsidised Dave Pinson Manual subscription. For those doing refresher course cost is $10.

    When: Sunday,19th July 2026  at Kendall Community Hall

    Time: 9.00-4pm


    If you are interested in becoming a Flying-fox rescuer and carer you are required to have a current Rabies vaccination, or be in process of receiving them. 

    This is also a refresher course for current bat carers.

    Additional event information

    Any members attending the training who do not have a current acceptable titre level will not be able to physically handle any live or bat bodies at the course.
